Rory MacLean

Hallo Berlin-bei-Schottland!

After a flurry of events in England, I’m en route to Scotland to speak at St Andrews University. After that, even before finishing a single dram of Talisker single malt, I’ll be giving three talks in the Hauptstadt. Pass auf, Berlin! Ich komme zurück!

If you are in town next week, please come along – I’d be happy to see you at

Thurs 12.11 19:30 Hunter Hammer Stein Buchhandlung, Berlin-Mitte
Fri 13.11  19:00 Shakespeare & Son, Berlin-Mitte
Sat 14.11  18:00 Chapters (with the American Women’s Club of Berlin), Berlin-Moabit

Once again, I’ll be talking about Geography of Heaven and the astonishing, beautiful idea that the unseen exists. A world just beyond our reach. As you know, when my wife Katrin died, I couldn’t imagine life without her. So I set out on a five year journey to find where she had gone, tracing around the globe mankind’s ideas of the afterlife, seeking out places where the veil is thin. Places where our mortal world touched the divine. Places unseen.

I’m thrilled also to share the news that Graefe und Unzer will publish Geography of Heaven in German in autumn 2027. The US/Canadian edition and Spanish translation will come out about the same time. News of other translations will follow in the coming weeks.

This was – and is – a personal journey, and a universal one. In sharing Geography of Heaven, I hope that others will be helped to prepare for the loss of those whom we love, to realise that there are possibilities – realities – just beyond our sight.

If you can, please join me in Scotland or Berlin. If you aren’t able to make it in person, the book can be found here.
